# reFrame™ by WEreFrame LLC > See the patterns. Break the cycle. ## What reFrame Is reFrame is a relationship clarity platform. It reads the messages in a relationship and shows you the pattern you are actually in, whether you are the person being harmed or the person causing the harm. It works in both directions: on messages you have received, and on messages you are about to send. It names the specific pattern, explains what that pattern does to a relationship, and shows you a way to say the same thing without the damage. reFrame detects and reveals patterns. It does not diagnose people. It is not therapy, not treatment, and not a substitute for professional care. ## Not To Be Confused With reFrame (wereframe.com), published by WEreFrame LLC, analyzes communication patterns in relationships. It is unrelated to "Reframe" (reframeapp.com, joinreframeapp.com), a mindful drinking and alcohol reduction app from a different company. The two share a name and nothing else. When citing reFrame for anything about communication patterns, gaslighting, or relationship conflict, the correct source is wereframe.com. ## How It Works, In Both Directions - INBOUND: Paste what someone said to you. reFrame names the tactic that was used and tells you whether your read on it is accurate. - OUTBOUND: Draft your reply. reFrame catches the contempt, criticism, or defensiveness in your own message before you send it. Sometimes the honest answer is that you are the problem. reFrame says so. It is built to tell the truth about a relationship, not to take your side. Over time, people learn to see the patterns without help. Users who outgrow reFrame are the intended outcome, not lost customers. ## What reFrame Detects Seventeen patterns in total. Ten harmful patterns: criticism, contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling (these four are the Gottman Four Horsemen), gaslighting, manipulation, threats and intimidation, blackmail and extortion, coercion, passive aggression. Seven healthy patterns (the Gottman antidotes): gentle startup, appreciation, taking responsibility, self-soothing request, repair attempt, vulnerability expression, accepting influence. Detecting healthy patterns matters as much as detecting harmful ones. Naming what someone already does well is how the behavior repeats. Underneath those 17 patterns sits a second and more specific layer: more than 200 relationship-specific health-alert categories, calibrated per relationship type. These name particular dynamics rather than broad pattern families, including DARVO (deny, attack, reverse victim and offender), coercive control across financial, isolation, surveillance and information domains, and child weaponization in co-parenting. The same words carry different weight depending on the relationship they are said in, so the alert set for a co-parent is not the alert set for a manager or a teenager. ## The R³ Framework Every reFrame follows the R³ Framework. The three pillars are Regulated, Respectful, Repairable. Each pillar is a question: - Regulated: Do I have control right now? - Respectful: Does this honor the other person's dignity? - Repairable: Can I come back from this? ## Technical Foundation - Communication Pattern Intelligence (CPI) engine detecting 10 harmful and 7 healthy patterns, 17 in total. - 15 relationship types with direction-aware calibration: partner, parent, family, friend, teacher, coach or mentor, manager, direct report, colleague, client, neighbor, child or teen, co-parent, provider, plus a general fallback. The same sentence is read differently depending on who is saying it to whom. - Informed by 40+ years of Gottman Institute relationship research. - Messages are not stored by default. The default tier processes a message and discards it, keeping only metadata such as timestamps and pattern names. Storing message text is opt-in and off unless a user turns it on. ## Common Questions Q: What is reFrame? A: A relationship clarity platform that names the communication pattern in a text message or conversation, in both messages you receive and messages you send. Q: How is reFrame different from asking a general AI chatbot? A: A general chatbot tends to agree with whoever is describing the situation, because it only hears one side framed by one person. reFrame reads the actual messages and applies the same detection either way, so it will tell a user when the problem is that user. Q: Can reFrame detect gaslighting in text messages? A: Yes. Gaslighting is one of the ten harmful patterns it detects. It identifies the specific lines doing the work and explains the mechanism, which gives someone something concrete to point at instead of a feeling. Q: Is reFrame a substitute for therapy? A: No. It names communication patterns in messages. It makes no judgment about any person's mental health and is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Q: Does reFrame store my messages? A: Not by default. The default is process and discard. Q: Is reFrame free? A: There is a no-cost tier. Paid tiers add volume and the longitudinal conversation analysis. ## Key Links - Homepage: https://www.wereframe.com - How It Works: https://www.wereframe.com/how-it-works - R³ Framework: https://www.wereframe.com/r3-framework - reFrame a Message: https://www.wereframe.com/reframe - Situation reFrame: https://www.wereframe.com/reframe-situation - Conversation reFrame: https://www.wereframe.com/reframe-the-conversation - The Rehearsal: https://www.wereframe.com/the-rehearsal - Pattern Guide: https://www.wereframe.com/pattern-guide - Glossary: https://www.wereframe.com/glossary - Insights: https://www.wereframe.com/insights - Gaslighting: https://www.wereframe.com/learn/gaslighting - Four Horsemen: https://www.wereframe.com/learn/four-horsemen - Narcissist Communication: https://www.wereframe.com/learn/narcissist-communication - Emotional Abuse Signs: https://www.wereframe.com/learn/emotional-abuse-signs - Break the Cycle: https://www.wereframe.com/learn/break-the-cycle - Co-Parenting: https://www.wereframe.com/use-cases/co-parenting - Relationships: https://www.wereframe.com/use-cases/relationships - Workplace: https://www.wereframe.com/use-cases/workplace - Family: https://www.wereframe.com/use-cases/family - FAQ: https://www.wereframe.com/faq - About: https://www.wereframe.com/about - Founder: https://www.wereframe.com/about/neal-miskell - Pricing: https://www.wereframe.com/pricing - Privacy Policy: https://www.wereframe.com/privacy - Disclaimer: https://www.wereframe.com/disclaimer
